Summary: Marie Thompson, 76, Bismarck, ND, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2023, after battling cancer for a bit over a year. A memorial service was held May 22, 2023, at Bismarck Community Church, Bismarck. Cremation has taken place. Burial was held at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Marie was born in Grand Forks, ND, on May 9, 1947, and was raised in Sioux Falls, SD, graduating high school in 1965. While being a single mother to her two children, she attended and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Mary. She enjoyed working at Burleigh County Social Services with the elderly and disabled clients which she did for 28 years before retiring in 2012. She gave her life to serve others and was an active member of Bismarck Community Church where she attended for over 40 years. Many fond memories were made during her Evangelism Explosion International days, and she took her role as deacon and organizing the prayer team very seriously. Following retirement, Marie volunteered for tax aide through the AARP, including being the scheduler, and attended Bible Study Fellowship. She was thought to have been born with a deck of cards in her hands as she loved playing pinochle and bridge. Marie was well known for her infectious laughter, great advice, and love for Tweetybird and Elvis. Although shy, Marie had a way with people like no other. Marie will be greatly missed by her children, Roger and Pam Thompson; brother, Larry (Char) Sivertson; nephews, Dak (Dawna) and their two girls, Devin and Kelly, and Matthew (Caroline); three cousins and their families; as well as countless lifelong friends and loved ones.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
