Summary: Rosemary Wangler, 91, passed away at home in Bismarck, ND, November 17, 2023, in the loving arms of her family. A Mass of Christian burial was held November 21, 2023, at a Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary Church, Bismarck. Rosemary Bitz was born April 18, 1932, to Adam and Mary (Becker) Bitz in Burnstad, ND, the second of 11 children. She attended first through fifth grade at country school. After having completed the fifth grade, Rosemary was required to stay home and help raise her nine younger siblings. On October 15, 1951, Rosemary married John Schumacher in Napoleon, ND. They had seven children. In 1966, the family moved to Bismarck. Rosemary supported her family by cleaning homes during the day and working as a barmaid at night. She had challenges, and stepped forward into them everyday determined to make a home for her family. In addition, she purchased homes, made them her own, sold them, and capitalized financially. Rosemary did plan vacations! They resembled National Lampoon movies where we seven kids and mom driving crammed into an old black Plymouth heading to Napoleon. This presented a seating problem as some of us sat on the floor while others on the seat. At the first hint of a fight, mom was quick to halt it by demanding,“Ok, kids! Pull out your Rosary!” and so we did. We prayed the Rosary out loud in unison. Church every Sunday and Catechism on Wednesdays was an absolute condition. Mom continued to pray the Rosary everyday. In 1982, Rosemary married Ramy Wangler. With that union, she expanded her love to include five additional children (the Wangler family) and dozens of grandchildren. Rosemary was the center of holidays and never forgot any birthdays or milestones. This part of her life included bus travel throughout the whole country. Throughout her life, Rosemary dedicated herself to others while never complaining. She was a brilliant and resourceful person. Rosemary always said the people who knew her were blessed. The people who didn’t know her didn’t know what they were missing. Her children agree. Rosemary had a hidden musical talent - “humming.” There wasn’t a sparkle she didn’t like, or that she didn’t wear. Her favorite exercise was walking in the health club called – “Walmart.” She was humorously competitive while playing Rummikub with her many friends, and was always trying to make someone’s day enjoyable. Rosemary was a prayerful soul. She was a Proverbs 31 woman, “A woman of courage. She knows what she can control and courageously trusts God with what she cannot. She can laugh at the days to come, because she is encouraged in the truth that God has ordered her steps. Because she trusts God with tomorrow, she can have peace for today.” Rosemary is survived by her children, Linda Putz, Sandra (Steve) Van Voorhis, Steve (Patti), Gary (Dora), Tommy (Elizabeth), and Jeff (Doreen) Schumacher; stepchildren, Mary Gebhardt, Carol (Allen) Wiebusch, Ken (Sue), Al (Patti), and Ray (Joyce) Wangler; 32 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren; siblings, George (Eileen), Leo (Pat), Vince (Bonnie), Pius (Cindy) Bitz, Francis Hornbacher, Maggie (Dan) Seifert, Sally (Jim) Beneke, Robert Dauenhauer, and Benny Weigel. Rosemary was preceded in death by Ramy Wangler, John (Butch) Schumacher, Delores Weigel, Helen Dauenhauer, John and Margie Bitz, Bobby Schumacher, and John Putz.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
