Summary: James Hilmer Weisz, 70, Killdeer, ND, passed away November 28, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer for the past two years. Funeral services were held December 2, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with Pastor Anne Nies officiating. Burial was in the Killdeer Cemetery. Jim was born June 4, 1953, to Erwin and Edna (Miller) Weisz in Hazen, ND. He was raised in Dodge and Halliday, ND, and later moved to Dickinson, ND, where he graduated in 1971. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He was assigned to the 18th Airborne Corps as a personal management specialist for most of his three years of service. While serving in the Army, Jim earned the highest peacetime medal, the Army Commendation Medal. In 1974 he married Karen Mjolhus and they had twins, daughter, Shari, and son, Jamie. He owned and operated the Coffee Shop and Jim’s Restaurant in Killdeer. Later he managed the Roundup Lanes Bowling Alley and Stardust Supper Club. In 1989 he moved to Bismarck, ND, andmanaged Denny’s Restaurant. He later became the district manager of Denny’s for Bismarck, Fargo, Minot, Sioux Falls, and Grand Forks. Before retirement, Jim worked for US Foods as a territorial manager where he earned several accolades, including the President’s Cup in 2013. Jim enjoyed spending time with his children, family, and friends. His children were his greatest joy in life and he cherished their time together. He loved going to concerts and sporting events, as well as fishing and hunting. Jim enjoyed watching football and NASCAR races. His cats, Snoopy and Fluffy, brought him great comfort and companionship over the last five years. Jim was a member of the Ezra Barrows Post 46 American Legion, Forty & Eight, the Lions Club, and Pheasants Forever. He was extremely proud and honored to have been a member of the Ezra Barrows Post #46 American Legion for 50 years. He also served on the Killdeer City Commision and St John’s Lutheran Church Council. Schlaf gut, Dad. Schlaf gut. Jim is survived by his daughter, Shari Weisz (Minneapolis, MN); son, Jamie (Janet) Weisz (Maple Grove, MN); mother, Edna Weisz (Killdeer, ND); sister, Michelle (Gary) Oversen (Killdeer, ND); brother, DeLon (Debi) Weisz (Bismarck, ND); brother, Daryl (Carol) Weisz (Billings, MT); aunt, Doris Borth (Spokane Valley, WA); along with cousins and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Erwin Weisz; uncle and aunt Hilmer and Darlene Weisz; grandparents, Ted and Christina Weisz and Emil and Hilda Miller.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
