Summary: Gary D. Witte, 80, Regent, ND, passed away April 7, 2023, at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND. A funeral service was held April 14, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Regent, with Dave Gabbert officiating. Burial was at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Gary D. Witte was born February 11, 1943, in Dickinson, ND, to William L. and Grace (O’Bleness) Witte. Gary grew up on the family farm near Regent, attending school and graduating from Regent High School. After high school, Gary met Carol Thoreson and the two were married October 14, 1962, at First Lutheran Church in Ada, MN. Gary enlisted in the US Army and was discharged in 1965. Gary and Carol made their home briefly in Dickinson before settling on the family farm near Regent. It was here where they made their home and raised their two sons, David and Jeremy. Gary was active in the church, serving as treasurer for many years. He also served on the North Dakota Safflower Council and Hettinger County Weed board. Gary enjoyed gardening and spent many hours in his greenhouse. He built miniature I.C. engines, and also built and flew model airplanes. In December of 2013, he ordered plans to build a Koala single seat airplane. A couple years later he purchased a partially built Ultra Cruiser. Any free time that Gary had was spent in the air. Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; son, Jeremy (Melissa) Witte, Dickinson; daughter-in-law, Lenore Witte, Regent; grandchildren, Devin, Dylan, Jacob, and Caleb Witte; brothers, Louis (Margee) Witte, Regent and Richard (Leslie) Witte, West Fargo, ND; sister-in-law Dianne Witte, Edgerton, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by both of his parents, Grace and Bill; son, David; and brother, Jim.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
