Summary: Irene Schmidt, 97, Bismarck, ND, died July 27, 2023. A memorial service was held July 31, 2023, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Irene Weltz was born on the farm ten miles south of Anamoose to Ted and Alvina (Lang) Weltz on July 25, 1926. She worked on the family farm until she married Raymond Schmidt on September 24, 1944. She and Raymond lived in Anamoose until 1960 when they moved to Valley City, ND, where Irene worked as a waitress. In 1971 they moved to Bismarck and she worked at Apple Creek Country Club until her retirement in 1989. Her hobbies included crocheting and embroidery. She also enjoyed cooking and was a one heck of a baker. She was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Eagles and the VFW. Irene is survived by her four children and their families: daughter, Linda Hanna and children, Gussie (Les) Anderson and George (Amy) Hanna; son, Bruce (Carol) Schmidt and children, Mike (Diana) Schmidt, and Joe (Lindy) Schmidt; daughter, Faye (Lenny) Laqua, and children, Steve (Patty) Laqua, Jason (Chris Frett) Laqua and Julie (Jesse) Parrow; and daughter, Diana “Cookie” (Jerry) Peterson and children, Heather (Paul) Jarski and Jerome, Jr. “Allan” Peterson; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; Irene’s brother, Clarence (Rosalie) Weltz; sister-in-law, Cherraine Weltz; and brother-in-law, Leroy Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Alvina; her husband, Raymond L. Schmidt; son-in-law, George W. Hanna; sister, Alice (Ted) Huber; and brother, Ervin Weltz.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
