Summary: Joyce “Josie” Dyer, 90, of Dickinson, ND, passed away July 11, 2024, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital, Dickinson. Funeral services were held July 19, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastor Mary Wiggins officiating. Burial was in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Josie Kohoutek was born in Minot, ND, on April 29, 1934, the daughter of Adolph and Mabel (Simonson) Kohoutek. She graduated from Minot High School in 1952. She met Harley Dyer in Havre, MT, and became his wife on August 2, 1956, in Minot. They moved to Great Falls, MT, where they were blessed with two daughters. The family then moved to Glendive, MT, in 1960 where Josie worked for the Montana Highway State Patrol. They moved to Dickinson in 1968. Josie worked various jobs here, which included attorneys’ offices, office supply store, retail store and for 16-17 years with Dr. Mark Emmerich. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church since 1968. She served on the Altar Guild for 53 years, was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the quilting group. Josie volunteered for many years at the hospital, church, and nursing homes. She also served as a 4-H leader, Bluebird and Brownie leader, and was active in the community in many other ways. She was also the Queen Bee of her Red Hat Society group. Josie made friends wherever she went and truly cared about people. She touched the hearts of many who will miss her dearly. Josie has now joined her husband of 55 years, Harley (2011); father, Adolph Kohoutek; mother, Mabel Simonson; stepmother, Olga Martinson; brothers, Richard and Eugene Kohoutek, and many dear friends. She lives on in the lives and memories of daughters Kathleen Dyer, of Livermore, CA, and Linda Caron, of Rapid City, SD; four grandchildren, Andee Caron, Trista (Jimmy) Snipes, Chris Caron (Janel Heidebrink), Daniel Caron; two great-grandchildren, Jazlyn Caron and Brinklee Caron; brother, J. Thomas Kohoutek, of Phoenix, AZ. and many others too numerous to mention.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
