Summary: Russell Duane “Rusty” Sherman, Jr., 70, passed away in his home October 23, 2024. A celebration of life was held November 2, 2024, at Evans Funeral Home in Carrington, ND. Burial was at the Carrington Cemetery. Rusty was born to Russell and Ellen (Gruntjes) Sherman on July 13, 1954. He was raised on a family farm just outside of Carrington, ND, along with two older sisters, four younger brothers, and one younger sister. During his high school years, Rusty worked in his family’s plumbing business, quickly picking up the trade. After graduating high school, he continued plumbing and obtained his journeyman license in 1976. He became known for his intelligence, strong work ethic, and willingness to help everyone. He was a consistent presence at the swimming pool every spring and fall, year after year, pivotal in ensuring that it would remain open for the kids to enjoy. After 55+ years of serving his community, Rusty had worked on essentially every building in Carrington and most other buildings in the surrounding communities. He was an absolute master at his craft and was known to be able to fix or engineer virtually anything involving plumbing, heating and air conditioning units, and appliances. His meticulous quality and attention to detail were as iconic as his blue work truck, and his ingenuity was respected throughout the state. Rusty's wealth of technical and historical knowledge is a tragic loss for the community. He will be greatly missed by many. He is survived and loved by his children, Ashley, Beth, and Matthew; his grandchildren, Knox, Kinsley, Zander, Ari, and Ivy; his sisters, Margaret, Kathy, and Karin “Buffy”; his brothers, Jim, Glenn, Danny, and Mike; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Russell (2012) and Ellen (2016).
