Summary: Gloria Janet Jetty passed away on October 22, 2024, at her residence. Her funeral was held October 30, 2024, at the St. Michael Rec Center, St. Michael, ND. Burial was in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Gloria Janet Jetty, (Ho Wašté Win Good Voice Woman), was born on February 23, 1930, in rural East End of the Spirit Lake Nation. She was the daughter of Ambrose Mark Jetty and Francis Lohnes Jetty. Gloria's educational journey began at the Little Flower Indian Mission School, St. Michael, followed by Fort Totten Day School, and graduating from the Immaculate Conception Indian Mission School, Stephan, SD, Class of 1950. She was one of the first graduates on the reservation earning her associate degree from Little Hoop Community College. In 1985 she obtained her social work license. Gloria’s first job was at Mercy Hospital as a dishwasher. She later served as a paraprofessional in the Devils Lake Public School District, where she shared her passion for learning and also taught beadwork, passing on cultural traditions to the next generation. For 18 years, she served as the head social worker for the Spirit Lake Tribe and another 20 years as the director of the Healthy Start Program, which focused on prenatal services for families on the reservation. Her community engagement began as a founding member of the O’tanka Club for Spirit Lake. She was also on various boards that would help develop many social and education programs for the Spirit Lake Tribe. In 1992, she was appointed by Governor Schafer to the Governor's Committee on Aging, where she represented Spirit Lake elders. Gloria also held the position of Great Plains representative on the National Indian Council on Aging (NICOA) and served as chair of the Spirit Lake Elders Board. Gloria was a lifelong member of the St. Michael Catholic Church. In addition to her professional achievements, Gloria was a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children and their families. From her marriage to “Happy” Lindquist: Cynthia Lindquist, Duane Lindquist, Candace Lindquist Zamora, Carmen Lindquist, and Darrell Lindquist (Mary). From her marriage to “Jimmy” Green: Leslie Green (Lori), James J. Green, Raymond Green (Jolene), Edward Green, Lynn Green, Aaron Green (Karri) and Fabian Green. She was preceded in death by her children, Mary Lindquist, Dwight Lindquist; parents, Ambrose and Francis Jetty; siblings, Betty Jetty Morin, Beatrice Abrahamson, Marie Baker, Genevive Nash, Doris Jetty, David Jetty and Gabriel Jetty. Gloria's legacy lives on through her large family – having 15 children, including 39 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Please give grace to the family, as they could not remember every relative to Gloria. Gloria was loved and cherished by many, and your presence during this time is felt near and far.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
