Summary: Darlyne Brudvig, 80, of Dickinson, ND, passed away November 2, 2024, at St. Luke’s Home. A funeral service was held November 7, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Burial was at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Darlyne was born in Mekinock, ND, on December 10, 1943, the daughter of Harry and Edna (Burtness) Johnson. She attended school in Larimore, ND, and continued her education at Mayville State University, where she graduated in 1965. On June 10, 1966, Darlyne married Lyle Brudvig in Grand Forks, ND. Their marriage was blessed with one son and four daughters. Darlyne coordinated and ran the Welcome Table Soup Kitchen every week in Dickinson, from 1993 to 2021. Her dedication to serving those in need of a healthy warm meal was commendable. She enjoyed working with the volunteer groups at the soup kitchen and was always thankful for their help. “Mrs. B.” was also a substitute teacher in the Dickinson Public and Catholic School Systems for many years. She was a favorite of both teachers and students. Other community groups that were meaningful to her were the Community Concert Association, Friends of the Library Bookstore. St John Altar Guild and Circle 6. She was especially proud to be a member of the Chapter B P.E.O. Sisterhood, which raises money and gives scholarships to women. She held every office in Chapter B several times over and became the “matriarch” of the group in her older years. She never had sisters of her own and loved calling the other ladies in the group her “sisters.” Her warm heart, kindness, and spirit of service will be missed. Darlyne enjoyed baking, especially caramel rolls, donuts, pies, bars, Christmas cookies, lefsa and other Scandinavian treats. Carrying on traditions around the holidays was especially important to her. She also enjoyed puzzles, playing games and cards and spending time with her family and friends around the kitchen table or on camping trips. Darlyne is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lyle; her five children, Erica (Scott) Karsky, of Dickinson, Aaron Brudvig, of Dickinson, Andrea Brudvig (Jeremy Swisher), of Grand Forks, Alicia (Steve) Focht, of Dickinson, and Amanda (Andy) Blankenship, of Minneapolis; and four grandchildren, Gannon and Logan Karsky, Ferris and Everly Blankenship.
