Summary: David Short, 90, of McHenry, ND, died November 27, 2024, at his residence under the care of CHI Hospice. His funeral service was held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, McHenry. Burial was at the Bethlehem Cemetery, McHenry. David Jennings Short was born on December 9, 1933, to Rutherford and Deana (Vining) Short in Juanita, ND. He attended and graduated from Juanita High School and decided to dedicate his life to the family farm, where he was able to live and care for it for ninety years. Dave was a good man of deep faith and a farmer/rancher all his life. He was a good steward of the land with respect and kindness to people and animals. He took wonderful, loving care of his parents in their “golden years” and even had a special room built onto the farmhouse just for his Mother to enjoy. For a few of his younger years as a beginning farmer, he worked as a seasonal crop surveyor and drove a school bus for Juanita School. In those years, a school bus was your own personal vehicle and there were three bus routes. Dave’s father, brother Terry, and Dave each had one route and would each transport from four to six students daily. Dave was a quiet man with a very unique sense of humor; sometimes only just a look, but you certainly knew if you were the recipient. He enjoyed cattle ranching, visiting with friends and neighbors, poker, pinochle, and whist, zipping around the farm on his four-wheeler, his many trips to Montana, his special dog “Cuddles,” and feeding several stray cats daily. Dave is survived by his sisters, Maxine Olson, Moorhead, MN, Linda Somerville, Minnewaukan, ND, Judy (Glenn) Cudworth, New Rockford, ND, and Ruth Zidon, Fargo, ND; and many nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kendall Short;, sister, Roberta Williams;, brothers, Terence Short, Douglas (R.D.) Short, Brian Short, infant brother, Melvin Short, Jack Short, and Tim Short.
