Summary: Donald Peter Storwold, 94, of Mesquite, NV, passed away January 12, 2025, surrounded by family, friends, and the caring staff at Mesquite Valley Estates. Interment was at the Prairie Home Cemetery in New Rockford, ND, on June 2, 2025. Don was born June 30, 1930, in New Rockford, the son of Peter and Olga (Johnson) Storwold. After graduating from Hanson Mechanical Trade School in 1947 with a certificate in automotive mechanics, he joined the US Army in 1951, serving in Trieste, Italy, and was honorably discharged in 1953. On June 2, 1951, he married the love of his life, Darlyne Schmitz, in Harvey, ND. They lived in New Rockford and Harvey, eventually moving to Dugway, UT. At Dugway Don worked as the Auto Craft Shop manager, vocational high school teacher, and later an electronic technician. After retiring in 1990, Don and Darlyne became snowbirds, spending time in North Dakota and Arizona. After Darlyne’s passing in 2005, Don moved to Sarasota, FL, to be closer to his family. In his later years, Don was a prolific artist, painting over 100 acrylic landscapes and 250 charcoal sketches. His family will always cherish these wonderful works of art. He was also a talented musician and a dedicated amateur radio operator. He leaves behind a daughter, Donette (Donald) Gordon, of Mesquite; two sons, Donald Jr. (Cari) Storwold, of Stansbury Park, UT, and Daryl (Sherri) Storwold, of Monroe, WA; three grandchildren, Keely (David) Sohler, of Stansbury Park, Kiera (Willie) Loakes, of St. George, UT, and Kennedy (Sierra) Storwold, of Apple Valley, UT, who were a source of joy, and his eight great-grandchildren will greatly miss him.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
