Summary: Paul Steffen, 63 of Dickinson, ND, passed away January 27, 2025, at CHI St. Alexius in Dickinson. A time of remembrance will take place at a later date. In accordance with Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Paul C. Steffen was born on January 22, 1962, in Dickinson to Carl and Eileen (Wierson) Steffen. He grew up in the Dickinson area and attended Dickinson Public Schools, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1980. Paul was very close to his grandparents, and he cherished the time he spent with them. While in school, Paul worked as a cook at Mr. Steak in Dickinson. Following high school, he worked for Bob’s Oilfield Services. It was during this time that he married Rita Gisi, and the couple was blessed with two children, Chris and Kayla. Paul continued to work in the oilfield industry, predominantly in Dickinson, but also did stints offshore near Alaska and on the North Slope. Paul was passionate about leading and training his crews and sharing his wealth of knowledge. Paul was an avid outdoorsman. He particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of his favorite hobbies was making fishing lures to catch the next “big one.” He was always on the lookout for wildlife and could befriend nearly any animal. He had a great love for animals, especially his beloved dogs. Paul was a jack of all trades. He was a natural problem solver and enjoyed building and fixing anything – be it carpentry, mechanics, or electrical work. Paul and his brother, Duane, were partners in crime. You could often find them working on their boat, gardening, canning, sausage making, whipping up recipes in the kitchen, or whatever the day had to offer. Though he struggled with various medical issues later in life, he continued to have a positive outlook and can-do attitude. His resilience and adaptability were remarkable. Paul had a good sense of humor, and he loved a good laugh and a bad joke. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Paul is survived by his children, Chris Steffen, of Bowman, ND, and Kayla Steffen, of Lacey, WA; his mother, Eileen Steffen, of Dickinson; brother, Glenn Steffen; sister, Susan (Greg) Knutson; beloved uncles and aunts; and several nieces He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Steffen; grandparents, William and Lydia Wierson and Fred and Emelia Steffen; brother, Duane Steffen; and his treasured dog, Ozzy.
