Summary: Gary Thielen, 70, of Dickinson, ND, passed away at his residence on February 1, 2025. A graveside service was held February 5, 2025, in St. Edward’s Cemetery in Fayette, ND, with Father Joseph Evinger officiating. Gary was born in Dickinson on September 26, 1954, the son of Albert and Loretta (Messer) Thielen. As a young boy, he attended Jefferson and St. Patrick’s Elementary and later graduated from Dickinson High School. When Gary wasn’t in school, you could find him at the sales barn. It was his passion and became his livelihood. His mother always said his first word was ‘cow.’ Gary married Susan Marie Emch on September 13, 1980, in Dickinson. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Jess and Jace. Gary continued to feed and buy cattle until his retirement in 2016. He loved time spent in the pasture looking at cattle. He was a proud member of the ND Stockmen's Association. Gary also enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, and going to Twins/Cubs baseball games. Gary is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Jess Albert Thielen and Jace Robert Thielen; grandchildren, Jaysse James Thielen and Jaxson Cordeil Thielen; brother, Ronald Thielen; Rachel Myran; and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Loretta Thielen; brother, Allen; sister, Diana; and sister-in-law, Karen Thielen.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
