Summary: Judy R. Shimek, 72, Mandan, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She fought a courageous battle with cancer for four years. Judy was born February 24, 1944, to Leo and Isabel (Eckroth) Franck.  She attended Central Elementary and Mandan High School.  In 1961 Judy went to work at Paul’s Recreation until 1964.  Judy married Charles R. Shimek in 1963, together they had four children.  She started an in-home daycare in 1964 and continued that profession for 50 years.  Judy loved her daycare children like they were her own family, and they loved all of her home cooked meals.  She loved music and was always dancing, she even taught a couple of her grandchildren to dance for their weddings.  Judy enjoyed a wide range of activities, including: camping, fishing, bingo, dancing, gardening, and canning anything she could put in a jar. Judy is survived by her children, Donavon (Vicki), Diane (Tim) Bergquist, Del (Karolyn), and Denise Shimek; her grandchildren, John (Shawna) Bergquist, Jake (Terra) Shimek, Heidi Shimek, Derek (Steph) Shimek, Connor Bergquist, Arista Bergquist, Ethan Shimek, Zoli Gab; and one great-grandson, Isayah Shimek.  She is also survived by her siblings, Shirley (Ed) Fitterer, Bob (Karen) Franck, Jim Franck, Darlene (Joe) Rippel, Norm (Sharon) Franck, Gary (Mary) Franck, Kevin (Deb) Franck, Sherry (Marc) Beaudry, Bernie (Bruce) Stutzke.  Judy had many close friends and neighbors with whom she created a lot of memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Isabel Franck; and her brother-in-law, Mike Peterson. Judy touched every life she came in contact with.  She loved everyone for who they were and always welcomed those in need.  She always gave from the heart without asking for anything in return.  You stamped our hearts with your love, you will be forever missed.
