Her Funeral mass was April 30th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Williston. Fr. Russell Kovash with celebrating the mass. June was born June 3rd, 1926 in Williston to Mary (McEnany) and Frances Hougen. June was the youngest of four children. June married Gordon Slagle July 3rd, 1944 in Sidney, Montana. June and Gordon raised their children on a farm northeast of Alexander. Gordon passed away October 28, 1958 at the age of 35 after 14 years of marriage. June and her family remained on the farm until moving to Alexander. While raising her young family she traveled to Williston daily to work at Mercy Hospital. After Gordon’s death June worked as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital for many years until 1969 when she began her studies for her LPN degree-License at UND Williston graduating in 1971 and continued working at Mercy Medical Center until she retired from nursing in 1989. June saw her ten children graduate from Alexander High School and enjoyed visiting them wherever they made their homes in different parts of the country. June enjoyed swimming, dancing, roller-skating, and traveling. Her house was full of friends and family on the weekends where afternoons ere spent playing games. Her home was a place where everyone would enjoy gathering for June's special cooking including her tender roast, apple pie and her specialty of “three corners”. She raised her children with a good religious foundation and almost every moment aside from working was spent taking groups of kids swimming at the river, hiking, tobogganing and ice skating. June greatly enjoyed visiting her many children in their various homes helping them on their farms, in their homes or coming to their activities and site seeing. When she was ready to return home, she didn’t like goodbyes, so many times she was gone before anyone woke up.
