Summary: Allan R. Bergland, 67, Bismarck, ND, died February 2, 2007, at Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, ND, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services were held February 7, 2007 at Bismarck Community Church. Rev. Maury Millican officiated, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Allan was born August 19, 1939, in Webster, SD, the son of Clifford and Myrtle (Rohr) Bergland. From 1945 to 1957, Allan attended schools in Aberdeen and McLaughlin, SD and Ellendale, Napoleon and Mandan in North Dakota. He graduated from Mandan High School in 1957. While living in Mandan, Allan worked at Hoffman's Appliance Center. From 1957 to 1959, he attended Bismarck Junior College and graduated with an associate of arts degree. Allan worked at First National Bank in Bismarck until 1961. In the fall of 1961, he attended Valley City State University, graduating in 1962 with a standard degree. From 1962 to 1964, he taught in Parshall, ND, and from 1964 to 1966, he taught in Sidney, MT. In 1966 Allan returned to Bismarck, where he taught at several grade schools. On August 15, 1969, Allan was united in marriage to Mary Jeanne Suemper in Bismarck. Allan was active in the Democratic Party and served as treasurer for District 32 for many years. He was an active member of Bismarck Community Church, where he served on the consistory and sang in the men's quartet. If there was a Dakota Wizards basketball game in town, he was there. He was an avid Wizards fan, and he enjoyed attending all of the games. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Jeanne, Bismarck; two daughters, Corrie (Jason) Mayher and Heidi Bergland, both of Bismarck; two brothers and one sister and their families, Clifford Bergland Jr., Spokane, WA, Charles and Maryann Bergland, Las Vegas, NV, and Jackie and Paul Meyer, Milwaukie, OR; two sisters-in-law and their families, Candy (Terry) Sherman, Albertville, MN, and Dolores Bergland, Dayton, OH; one brother-in-law and his family, Herb Schlenker, Madras, OR; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Myrtle Bergland; his sisters, Maxine Schlenker and Glennis Bergland; his brother, Ralph Bergland; his sisters-in-law, Devy Bergland and Barbara Bergland; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Walter and Lela (Davis) Suemper.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
