Inscription/Marks: 4/25/1968
Summary: Timothy "Tim" Charles Elsbernd, 49, Bismarck, passed away peacefully at his home November 29, 2017, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Mass of Christian was December 4, at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with Monsignor Tom Richter Officiating. Burial was at St Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Cremation has taken place. Tim was born April 25, 1968, to Charles and Carol Elsbernd. Tim grew up in Bismarck, ND and graduated from St Mary's Central High School in 1986, where he was active in football and basketball.  He remained a lifelong fan of all St Mary's sports and enjoyed getting to as many games as he was able. Tim's love of sports began when he was a toddler, as he rattled off numbers, names, and positions of NFL football players, to the amazement of others.  After high school, he coached Babe Ruth baseball and youth football in the FM Athletics Youth Football League in Fargo.  Some of his proudest accomplishments were coaching the 1992 Babe Ruth State Championship team and a team that won the Prairie Rose games. He also looked forward to playing in the McQuade Charity Softball Tournament for many years.  For the past two years, he was honored to umpire several games in this annual tournament. Tim was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox, KU Jayhawks Basketball, and NDSU Bison. Over the past two years, he was grateful to very special friends who made it possible for him to attend games of all of his favorite teams, with the exception of the Packers. Tim's greatest joy was being "Uncle Tim" to his 12 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews. He loved them all and had very special relationships with them.  He was also blessed with many friends who loved and supported him, especially over the past two years as he battled his health. He was especially thankful to have had so many of his friends and family come to visit him over the past month, many of whom traveled long distances specifically to spend one last time with him. Tim definitely had a way with words and he will be missed for his quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor.
