Summary: Florence D. Wheeler, Bismarck, ND, passed away April 4, 2018.  Funeral services were held April 7, 2018, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Bismarck, with Rev. Lisa Ahlness officiating. Interment has taken place at Carrington, ND, Cemetery. Florence D. Fiske was born August 3, 1932, the daughter of Oscar and Anne Fiske at her parents’ home west of Colfax, ND.  She attended schools in Colfax, high school at Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, ND, Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. She worked at the Anne Carlson Crippled Children’s School in Jamestown, ND, graduating with a cosmotology degree from the New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo, ND. She managed a beauty shop in New Rockford, ND, in the late 1950’s. She married Arthur Wheeler November 29, 1959, in New Rockford. Florence and Art resided in Page, ND. They moved to Maddock, ND, November 1, 1961, to assume ownership and operation of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Maddock and Esmond.  Florence assisted with conducting funerals, and other facets of the funeral home operation. She contributed much to the Maddock community, coordinating emergency communications for the ambulance, fire department, and local police for years.  She was always willing to provide food and other items for local events and actively served at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. The Wheelers moved to Bismarck in January 1980.  Florence provided babysitting for her Bismarck grandchildren in their early years. In 1998 the couple moved to Cohasset, MN, southwest of Grand Rapids, MN.  Florence loved to sit by Pokegama Lake, go on pontoon rides, and listen to the loons calling. In May 2010, they returned to Bismarck to make their home. They were blessed many years by spending some winter months in the Mesa, AZ, area.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
