Summary: The world lost a legend on May 31, 2025, with the passing of Hal Chris John Johnsrud. Funeral services were held June 14, 2025, at the Clear Creek Church in Keene, ND, with Pastor Peder Stenslie officiating. He was laid to rest at Clear Creek Cemetery in Keene. Hal Chris John Johnsrud was born January 13, 1948, in Williston, ND, to Harold and Florence Johnsrud. In the eyes of his children and grandchildren he was the greatest cowboy who ever lived. He was the real deal—rugged and wild, unapologetically himself. He lived hard, played hard, and loved even harder. He had more heart than anybody on earth. He had a friend everywhere he went. Everyone who ever met him loved him, and no one ever forgot him. He left his mark on every single person who crossed his path. His laugh could fill a room, his stories could stop time, and his presence made you feel like you were part of something rare and unforgettable. All his children love and adore him, each of them carrying pieces of his grit, strength, and unshakable spirit. To his grandkids, he was and always will be a hero. Their cowboy grandpa. To them he was larger than life and full of love. He taught them what it means to stand tall, stay loyal, and ride through life with heart. He lived with intensity, but also with immense kindness. He was a force, a fire. He was the real deal in a world full of imitations. The world was lucky to have him, and those of us who knew him were luckier still. Though he may have ridden off into the sunset, his spirit, his stories, and his legendary heart will live on forever in all of us. Ride free, cowboy. We’ll see you down the road. Hal will be dearly missed by his daughters, Cassie Cervera, Summer Johnsrud, Tara Burns; son, CJ Johnsrud; son-in-law, Bryan; daughter-in-law, Tabitha; grandchildren, Stefan, Jaden, Maddie, Abby, Cameron, Lauren, Pearl Shane, Ruby, Opal, Henry Emerald, and baby boy on the way; brother, Miles Johnsrud; sister-in-law, Marlene; brother-in-law, Larry Kling; nephews, Morgan, Chris and Nolan, Shawn Kling; niece Heather Shelly. Hal was greeted on his last ride by his parents, Harold and Florence Johnsrud, and sister, Colleen Kling.
