Summary: William Russell Picard, 77, Bottineau, ND, passed away July 8, 2020, at a Bottineau nursing home. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated July 14, 2020, at the St. Mark's Catholic Church in Bottineau. Officiating at the service was Father Jared Kadlec. Judy Allard and Cheryl Guss provided the music. Casket bearers were the Knights of Columbus. Burial was at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau. William Russell Picard, a son of Joseph and Elise (Duval) Picard, was born on January 23, 1943, in Bottineau. He attended the Notre Dame Academy in Willow City and later graduated from Bottineau High School in 1961. It was when Russ started school in Bottineau that he found out that his real first name was William not Russ. He worked as a mechanic with his dad and brother at McGuire’s Inc. in Bottineau right after high school. On November 21, 1964, he married Janice Ilene Johnson at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Bottineau. Together they raised four children; William Russell II, Bradley David, Debra Lynn and Dawn. Russ and Jan owned two businesses together, Jose's Little Red Shed and Turtle Mountain Glass and Paint. Russ was an active member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Bottineau. He was a member of the Bottineau Knights of Columbus and was the first fish fryer for the KC Lenten Fish Fries. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Bill Picard, Brad (Nikki) Picard, Deb (Darren) Fueller, and Dawn (Johnny) Picard and Lance and Stacy Footitt; grandchildren, Kirstie Fueller, Kaitlyn (Justin) Kudrna, Peter-Michael Dixon, Benett (Kendall) Dixon, John Picard and Abigail Picard; sister, Kathy Nance; brothers, Dale (Kathy) Picard, Chuck (Virginia) Picard, James (Carol) Picard and Thomas (Jean) Picard; and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Picard and Richard Picard; sisters, Irene Foss and Anadine O'Connell; and daughter-in-law, Chloe Opheim.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
