Summary: Mary Katherine Volesky, 75, of Dickinson, formerly of Belfield, passed away at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck, due to natural, non-COVID-19 causes, on Oct. 2, 2020, with family members by her side. Funeral Mass was at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Father Shane Campbell celebrating. Burial followed at St. Bernard’s cemetery. Mary was born on January 20, 1945, in Dickinson to Vincent F. and Ella (Perzinski) Volesky. She was raised at the family farm in Billings County, attended country school and Belfield High School, graduating with honors in 1964. She went on to earn an associate's degree in business from Capitol Commercial College, Bismarck. Her employment stints included the farm service office, Belfield, and later as an assistant secretary/bookkeeper at St. Bernard's. Mary was the beloved babysitter for numerous Belfield children over the years, often inventing games to keep them entertained. She also helped raise some of her younger siblings. Mary's longest role was helping run the family farm, with its variety of poultry, huge gardens, and sometimes driving a tractor to help haul hay. Mary loved the farm life. She was what today would be known as a master gardener, and was the “veterinarian,” bringing many farm animals to good health. When not outdoors, she kept busy helping her mother as a homemaker, and with sewing, needlework, drawing, puzzles, reading, occasionally playing piano, and taking care of her cherished pets such as parakeets or a cat or dog. She was a member of St. Bernard’s, where she belonged to Catholic Daughters, the church guild, and served as the guild secretary for many years. She rarely said "no" to anyone. In 2011, Mary became a resident of St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. She was a member of the quilting club at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and had been a mentor at Lincoln Elementary, both in Dickinson. She is survived by her siblings Roger (Darlene) Volesky, their children Dana (Eric Buchholz) Volesky and Dynelle (Isaac) Long; Margaret (Arnie) Perzinski, their children Greg (Amber) Perzinski, Ross (Megan) Perzinski, Jeff Perzinski; Arlene (Tom) Deutscher, their children Derek (Erika) Deutscher, Douglas (Ashlee Fruhwirth) Deutscher, and Alyssa (Robert) Sabyan; Jerry (Teri) Volesky, their son Nick; and Richard Volesky. She is survived by great-nephews and nieces Evey, Amelia, Oliver, Sam, Katie, Bethany, Grace, Andy, John, Easton, Elin, Henrik, Anders and Maverick. Mary was preceded in death by he rgrandparents, her parents, brother Allen Volesky, nephew Ryan Volesky, nephew Aaron Deutscher and his wife Allison and their daughter Brielle. Mary sometimes revealed a wry sense of humor. Her St. Luke’s caregivers described Mary as fun loving and having a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
