Summary: Joan Weiand, 83, of Glen Ullin, ND, passed away October 2, 2025, at her home. A funeral Mass was held October 10, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Gary Benz celebrating. Burial was in Sacred Heart cemetery. Joan was born April 17, 1942, in Glen Ullin to Walter and Theresa (Skalsky) Gietzen. She grew up in Glen Ullin and went to country school for the first eight years, and then attended and graduated from Glen Ullin High School. After high school, she continued her education, fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse. In 1975, she earned her LPN license, beginning a lifelong career of compassion and care at Marian Manor where she worked for 38 years. On September 11, 1960, Joan married the love of her life, Gary Weiand, in Glen Ullin. They had three children: Anette, Mikey, and Monica. The young couple spent a short time in North Carolina while Gary served in the military before returning to Glen Ullin, where they made their permanent home. Joan’s life was marked by her generosity and her willingness to serve. She volunteered with the Glen Ullin Ambulance for many years, always answering the call to help. Her warm and giving spirit extended beyond her career and volunteer work—she was known as a faithful friend, a caring neighbor, and a devoted caregiver to those around her. She loved gardening. Her dill pickles, chokecherry jelly, and chocolate chip cookies were legendary and often found their way into the hands of family and friends. Joan also enjoyed traveling with friends. Joan is survived by her husband, Gary; children, Annette (Ronnie) Rebel, Mikey Weiand, and Monica (Jason) Berg; grandchildren, Brandon, Berry, Naythan, Carly, and Shane; great-grandchildren, Caden, Breanna, Jace, Ayrie, Jossy, Zephyr, and Brayden; siblings, Elaine (Allan) Streitmatter, Mick (Barb) Gietzen, Phyllis (Michael) Mackey, Maxine Schmautz, Mark (Debbie) Gietzen, Kieth (Sherri) Gietzen, and Karen Gietzen; and brothers-in-law, Ray Diede and Allan (Mary Ann) Weiand. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Theresa; brothers, Darrell (Janice) and Doug; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Adeline Diede, Janice (Steve) Donahue, and Cora Weiand.
