Summary: Dr. John C. Weir, 73, of Dickinson, ND, passed away October 30, 2025, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Funeral Mass was held November 7, 2025, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Msgr. Thomas Richter and Father Kregg Hochhalter con-celebrating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s cemetery. John was born in Dickinson on December 20, 1951, the son of Paul and Harriet (Rother) Weir. He grew up attending school in Dickinson, graduating from Dickinson High School. He received his undergrad from UND and later Moorhead State University in Business and Accounting. John worked for various companies as Nerco and Essco for several years before he moved to Forest Grove where he attended optometry school at Pacific University. He then returned to Dickinson to work with his brother. It was during this time that he met Deb Wald. They were married on May 29, 1992 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson. They were blessed to raise two children. John was always grateful for his successful optometry practice and his time as an optometrist. He retired from his practice on his birthday in 2019. John was active in the community as a proud member of Elks, St. Patrick's School Board, Knights of Columbus and Dickinson Optimist Club. He was a life-long learner, having a thirst for knowledge that was never quenched. He was an avid EBay lover and enjoyed collecting antiques and treasures. John enjoyed riding his Harley, driving his cabriolet, hunting with Nick, camping, and spending time in the Black Hills. John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Deb; daughter, Gretchen Weir of Louisville, KY; son, Nicholas (Cori) Weir of Dickinson; granddaughter, Karsen Weir; sisters, Kay Ventley of Portland, OR, Joan Allen of Minneapolis, MN, Marjorie Hoff of Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Harriet Weir; brother, Robert Weir; brother-in-law, Peter Ventley.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
