Summary: Carter J. Kleinsasser, 82, of rural Carrington, ND, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025. A celebration of life was held December 19, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Carrington. Born on January 28, 1943, on the family farm in Chaseley to John C. and Anna P. (Wollman), Carter lived a life devoted to hard work, the land, his family, and being a loyal friend to many. Life on the farm taught Carter never to be afraid of hard work. His work ethic served him well throughout his life. He would share stories about his early jobs off the farm, including stints building the interstate in Montana, custom combining in the South, and building the runway at Stapleton Airport in Denver. He joined the US Army in 1964 and served as a military police officer. He returned to the family farm after his father's passing and had been a farmer ever since. In 1969, he married KathE (Porter), and in 1974, they bought the farmstead 13 miles southwest of Carrington, where they raised small grains, sunflowers, beef cattle, and their children, Sheri and Jimmy. Through the good times and bad, no rain and too much rain, and with a lot of luck and the grace of God, the farm persevered. Carter taught his family how to work hard, stay humble, and take pride in what they do. He poured his heart into family and the farm, both of which are better because of him. He was a proud dad, supporting his kids in all they did and along the way becoming a loyal fan of the Carrington Cardinals, UND Fighting Sioux, and Minnesota Vikings. Carter's grandchildren gave him his most prized title, Papa. Whether it was riding in the Gator, going fishing, gopher hunting, or watching every sporting event, play, or recital, his grandchildren always felt his love, pride, and support. Beyond being a farmer, husband, father, and Papa, Carter was a great friend. He was a neighbor always willing to help someone in need. He had a quick wit and could strike up a conversation with anyone, making them feel like an old friend. Since retiring in 2011, he had been a regular attendee of coffee on Saturday mornings with his Hawksnest Township friends and on weekday afternoons in Carrington with his buddies, whom he affectionately called "The Table of Knowledge." Carter is survived by his wife of 56 years, KathE; children, Sheri (Stuart) Stockmoe and Jimmy (Christa) Kleinsasser; grandchildren, Seely and Shya Stockmoe, Carter and Cayden Kleinsasser; sisters, Grace Nutz, Caryl Kleinsasser; brothers, Allen Kleinsasser, Russel (Janice) Kleinsasser; brother-in-law, Dennis (Kathy) Porter; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Don Nutz; and sister-in-law Anita Kleinsasser.
