Summary: Leo L. Braun, 91, of Dickinson, ND, passed away at Edgewood "Hawks Point" on December 5, 2025. Funeral Mass was held December 11, 2025, at St. Partick's Church with Father Brandon Wolf celebrating. Entombment was at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Leo was born to Louis and Katherine (Schwindt) at home on a farm southwest of Killdeer, ND, on November 13, 1934. Leo graduated from Killdeer High School in 1952. After graduation Leo worked for Standard Oil, ND Highway Department, and Coca Cola Bottling Company before being drafted into the US Army in 1958. After serving as a mechanic at Fort Carson, CO, Leo returned to his position as a salesman for Coca Cola. His work ethic caught the eye of the owner of Charlie's Beverage Company. Leo was offered a job and in 1961 he purchased the company and renamed it the Queen City Beverage Company. In the early days, Leo was a "One Man Show." He would run all his routes during the week, and do his bookwork on weekends. Leo served on the Board of the National Beer Wholesalers, and was also an early member, and president of the ND Beer Wholesalers Association. In 1991 he purchased the first of two local candy companies he would end up purchasing, and they became Queen City Candy. Leo was one of the first to have a banner fly over the Roughrider parade. It read, "Leo Says Drink Bud." Leo sold the company to his sons Kevin and Curt in 2002. Leo always had a love for cars, owning numerous late model cars. He enjoyed sponsoring and getting cars ready for the annual demolition derby. He did some stock car racing in his younger years and was an inspiration for grandson Alex and granddaughter Erin to take up car racing. Leo enjoyed weekends at the lake, his morning pinochle games, yardwork and watching his grandchildren in their sporting events and activities. Leo met his sweetheart, Maxine Zubke, at a dance in Grassy Butte, ND. Three years later they were married on the anniversary of their first date, August 5th. Leo and Maxine made Dickinson their home along with their three children, Kevin, Vonna and Curt. Leo is survived by his son, Kevin (Amy) Braun Dickinson; daughter, Vonna (Tim) Cheever, Eloy, AZ; and daughter-in-law, Shelly Braun, Dickinson; six grandchildren, Cory, Erin, Alex, Abby, Braxtyn and Jaxon; and one great-granddaughter, Winter; brothers, Louie Braun and Jerry Braun. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; son, Curt; his parents; his brothers, Ray, Steve, Frank, Jim, Dan; and sister, Gloria.
