Summary: Janet E. Reider, 90 of Dickinson, ND, passed away December 23, 2025, after an extended illness, with her devoted husband of 68 years at her side. Per the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held in Elmira, MI, at a later date. Janet Estella Doremire was born on October 6, 1935, in the upstairs bedroom of the old farmhouse at Smith's Crossing, MI, to Clayton and Jane (Justice) Doremire, the second of four children. Clayton was an electrical engineer at Dow Corning in Midland, MI. Jane had taught in a one-room schoolhouse since age 17, later earning her master's degree in education. Janet was a bright student, and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in home economics. Her studies included a semester in Mexico City, where she met an aspiring art student from Minnesota, Rohland "Tuffy" Reider. The two married in Midland in June of 1957, and immediately moved to Dickinson, where they lived and worked for three years. Over time, they raised two children and lived in many states. Janet was a gifted artistic seamstress; designed several of their homes; earned a master's degree from Colorado State University; and volunteered in the communities in which they lived. She advocated for integration, women's rights, and under-served immigrant populations. Her interests included reading, quilting, pets, fitness and nutrition, and she was a dedicated correspondent. Janet and Tuffy traveled regularly, but she always returned to visit her dear family and friends in Michigan. She will be remembered for enduring kindness to others. Janet is survived by her husband, Tuffy; son, David Reider of San Angelo, TX; daughter, Linda Reider (Karl Steavenson) of Ottsville, PA; granddaughter, Laura Steavenson of Maibara, Japan; grandson, Benjamin (Rosana) Steavenson and great-granddaughter Adelina, of San Antonio, TX; sister, Linda Spence of Traverse City, MI; sister-in-law, Therese Doremire of Fountain Hills, AZ; a cousin, Nancy Peabody of Allegan, MI; many other dear nieces, nephews and friends. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Jane; and two brothers, Jack Doremire and Joseph Doremire.
