Summary: Norman Seil, 72, of Sykeston, ND, passed away on January 18, 2026, at his home following a long battle with cancer. A funeral service was held January 24, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND. Burial was at the Sykeston Cemetery. Norman Neil Seil was born on April 19, 1953, in Carrington, to Victor and Margaret (Grant) Seil. Norman, or "Goat," as most friends and family knew him, was the fifth of nine children and was raised south of Heaton, ND. The Seil family also welcomed three cousins, Raymond, Dave, and Judy, into their home after the passing of their mother. Norman attended school in Heaton and Sykeston and joined the Army in 1970. After leaving the Army, he lived in Kansas for several years before moving back to the Sykeston area in 1976. Norman was united in marriage to Julie Neumiller on October 14, 1977, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sykeston. Norman and Julie farmed and made their home south of Heaton and were blessed with three children: Arick in 1982, Maggie in 1985, and Carly in 1987. In 1993, the Seil family moved into Pettibone, ND, for a couple of years before relocating to Cavalier, ND, where Julie began her career as a registered nurse. Norman began working for Mayo Construction Company in 1994 and continued working for Mayo until his retirement in 2019. After retiring, Norman helped several local farmers with their spring and fall work, and mowed the Sykeston Cemetery, a job in which he took great pride. Norman enjoyed playing cards, dancing, watching Jeopardy, and being with his family. His greatest joy was his granddaughters, Winnie and Betty. He loved watching them grow, and especially loved teasing them and making them laugh. Norman will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Julie, Sykeston; daughters, Maggie Seil (Mark), Sykeston, and Carly (Ryan) Raftevold, Fergus Falls, MN; granddaughters, Winnie and Betty, Fergus Falls; brothers, Don (Sue), Clinton, IA, Jim (Michele), Heaton, Vic Jr., Cheyenne, WY, and Steve (Brenda), Heaton; sisters, Cathy (Curt), Eagan, MN, Carol, Canyon, TX, Becky, Chandler, AZ, Deb (Larry), Fargo, ND; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Norman was preceded in death by his son, Arick; parents, Victor and Margaret; parents-in-law, Paul and Edna Neumiller; nephew, Chad Neumiller; niece, Shanna Seil; and cousin, Dave Miller.
