Inscription/Marks: 9/1/1955
Summary: George and Cynthia (Klein) Auen passed away naturally and were reunited with their Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ on October 15 and 16, 2023.  A Mass of Christian burial was held November 3, 2023, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bismarck, ND. George was born September 1, 1955, in Regent, ND, to Myron and Marcy (Kouba) Auen. He attended schools between Mott and Regent and graduated from Regent High School in 1972. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University. After a brief time in Kansas City, he moved back to Dickinson and eventually to Bismarck. George was the VP of Fougner Engineered Sales in Bismarck for 35 years and was well known and brought a smile to the faces of each of his customers. He was known for his quick wit and easy one-liners and was always the comedic relief in hard situations. No one worked as hard as George - he was reliable and trustworthy, a steadfast voice of reason. Work hard, play hard! He loved being on the golf course and when he was no longer able to golf, would sit and watch others play golf and do his Bible study from the parking lot. He was an avid sports fan and loved to share his passion about and talk sports with his wife and children (go Vikings and Twins!). He recently finished a year and a half long Bible study and it brought him such peace, joy and pride to share what he had learned with others. George and Cindy met and were married in Dickinson on September 2, 1983, at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. They had a steadfast love for each other and carried each other through life with faith always at the center of their marriage. They moved to Bismarck in 1983 where they welcomed their son, George Casey, and a year later their daughter, Cari Jean. Their children and grandchildren, Joseph George, Olivia Lynne, George Oakley and Hattie Smith, were their pride and joy. They were the best parents, grandparents, coaches, cheerleaders and role models, a constant source of wisdom, strength and encouragement. They were unwavering in their faith and were not scared of death. “Don’t worry. We are not in control. It’s God’s plan, not ours, and God’s plan is so much greater” and “You need to pray about it” were always mixed in with their other advice. They are loved and missed by those they left here on earth, their son, George (Casey) Auen; their daughter, Cari Dunnwald; their son-in-law, Scott; daughter-in-law, Stephanie and grandchildren, Joe, Livi, Oakley and Hattie. Cindy’s mom, Peggy Klein; sisters, Laurel (Matt) Call and Karen (Paul) Villa; brothers, Brad (Bonnie) Klein, Gene Klein and Stewart Klein; George’s sister, Cheryl (Doug) Olson; brother, Tim (Elaine) Auen; 19 nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and nephews; and numerous close friends. They were reunited at heaven’s gate with George’s parents, Myron and Marcy Auen and brother, Rod Auen; Cindy’s father, Eugene Klein; as well as other friends and family that have passed before them.
