Summary: Larry Wayne Bohn, 78, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in his home in Bismarck, ND.  His funny one liners and love of family, hunting and football continued through his final days. Mass of Christian burial was held August 22, 2024, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Burial was at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Larry was born on May 19, 1946, in Carson, ND to Walter and Julia Hanson Bohn and graduated from Carson High School. He was a decorated disabled US Army veteran, serving in Vietnam with the Big Red One.  After the war, Larry married Eva Marie Hartman Bohn on February 17, 1969, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson, ND and they had two children, Patrick and April.  He earned an associate degree from Bismarck State College.  He worked as a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad in North Dakota and Montana before becoming disabled and facing numerous health challenges throughout his life. In 1989 they moved to Las Vegas, NV, where Eva launched her 25-year teaching career.  In 2018, they returned home to North Dakota. Larry grew up hunting and fishing with his parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews and had many fond memories of annually joining his brothers to hunt pheasant and deer and play pinochle. Larry was always ready to join family for hunting and was looking forward to filling his deer tag this fall.  He will always be remembered for the way he lit up when someone came to visit and for his generosity.  Those in need and the grandchildren often benefitted from a “little scratch” in his pocket. The grandchildren will never forget his bedtime stories about scary bears in Yellowstone, the way he sang “newnee newnee” and drew “round and round” on their backs to help them fall asleep.  Larry enjoyed life; his phrase “this is the best ever” was used frequently regarding food and activities and it made others feel good.  Larry valued family above all else and took great pride in fulfilling his duties as a dad and grandpa.  He emphasized the importance of “being a man” and instilled qualities of responsibility and integrity in his children and grandchildren from a very young age. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Eva, who cared for him to the very end. He is also survived by two children, four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren: Pat (Dana) Bohn, of Mandan, ND, and April Bohn, of Bismarck; Dr. Meyer (Melanie) Bohn, of Marion, IA, Alicia (Devon) Laszlo, of Bismarck, Kayla (Lewis) Dobitz, of Dickinson, ND, and Karissa (Paxton) Miller, of Dickinson; Aubree and soon to arrive baby Laszlo, and Colson and Kendal Dobitz; two brothers, Walter (Alma), of Nashville, TN, and Bruce, of Renfrew, PA, and four sisters, Peggy Neifert, of Livermore, CA, Virginia (Allan) Earsley, of Reeder ND, Gloria (Marvin) Klusmann, of New Salem, ND, Julie (John) Lundstrom, of Mandan; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Bohn, Jean Bohn and Betty Bohn. Preceding Larry in death are his parents; five brothers, Stuart, George, Jim, Ronald, and Mick, and one sister, Phyllis Weishahn.
