Summary: Arlo Dean Neumiller, 86, of Fargo, ND, passed away at the HIA Heather’s House in Fargo on March 10, 2026. A celebration of Arlo’s life was held March 21, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home in Carrington, ND. Burial was in the Carrington Cemetery. Arlo was born in Fargo on February 6, 1940, to Lydia Neumiller and was raised by his grandparents, Christ and Mathilda Neumiller of Sykeston, ND. Arlo attended school in Sykeston until he graduated in 1958 when he enlisted in the army where he served from November 1958 until October 1960. After Arlo returned to North Dakota, he attended NDSU, majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. In 1962, he married Sonja Skadberg. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from NDSU, the couple moved to Milwaukee, WI, where Arlo attended Marquette Dental School. While in dental school, he and Sonja welcomed their first child, son Joel in 1967. After his graduation, Arlo and his family moved to Cooperstown, ND, where they opened a dental practice in 1969. In 1970, all except Joel—who was intimidated by this new talented rival for his parents’ affection—welcomed a daughter, Tanya, to the family. In 1992, after Sonja and Arlo divorced, Arlo began working as a dentist in Fargo, first for another dentist, and then opening his own practice, Agassiz Dental. Arlo worked at both practices—Cooperstown and Fargo—for many years, finally retiring on March 29, 2013. In 2006, Arlo purchased a cabin on Two Inlets Lake in Minnesota with his daughter Tanya and her family. Arlo loved spending time at the cabin with his family and friends, particularly enjoying his flower garden, fishing from the dock, and spending time with his grandchildren. He made lots of new friends at the lake as well, where he spent many hours socializing with neighbors on the deck and around the campfire. Arlo was well known for his many hobbies including golfing, gardening (he curated a wildflower garden at his home in Cooperstown), woodworking, flying, fishing, photography and, both as a child and in the last ten years of his life, model airplane building. His obsession with flying began at a young age and continued throughout his lifetime. He loved recounting the days when he was a co-owner of a Piper Arrow airplane, particularly sharing his exploits on his many fishing trips to Canada with his Cooperstown friends. In the last ten years, Arlo once again focused much of his attention on airplane model building, meticulously putting together more than 20 airplanes and entertaining his cabin friends by flying his remote-controlled planes over the lake. Arlo was also infamous for his witty humor and amazing retorts. His family will miss his advice, his love, and his laughter deeply. He is survived by his son, Joel (Penny) of Bismarck, ND, and his daughter, Tanya (Ward Lunde) of Kindred, ND; five grandchildren, Alex, Ilsa, Elena, Sydney and Colin; and two great-grandchildren, Runa and Gwyn. Arlo was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Mise.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
