Summary: Gordon G. Gumke, 88, of Watford City, ND, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026. Memorial services were held May 30, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City, with Pastor Rob Favorite officiating. Gordon dedicated his life to education, first as a teacher and later as a principal with Fairview, MT, schools. He was known for his steady leadership, fairness, and genuine care for his students and staff. He believed in doing things the right way and made a lasting impact on the many lives he guided and mentored throughout his career. Outside of his work, he found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening—activities he cherished most when shared with family and friends. Gordon was a man of many talents, with skills in painting, knitting, crocheting, leatherwork, and taxidermy. He will be remembered as a man of strength, humility, and quiet kindness. He didn’t seek attention, but his presence was deeply felt by those around him. His love for his family was constant, and the values he lived by will carry on through them. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. Gordon is survived by his two sisters, Mary Lou Konrad (Harvey, deceased) and LaDonna Berg (Gordie); his brother, Murray Gumke (Karen); and his son, David, along with David’s children, Michaela Samuelson (Scott), Ben Gumke, Logan Gumke (Molly), and Braedon Gumke; his daughter, Stacie Price (Matt), and her children, Taylor Price (Lexi) and Mason; his great-grandchildren, Easton and Leo Samuelson, Hudson Gumke, and Briella Price in whom he took great pride and who brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Marvelyn Gumke; his three brothers, Robert, Ramone, and Marlin; and his beloved wife, Darlene Veil Gumke, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
