Summary: Rev. Susan Fandrich passed away April 21, 2026, at the Eventide Care Center. Her memorial service was held May 22, 2026, at the Evens Funeral Home Chapel in Carrington, ND. Susan was buried in the Carrington Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Jim, following the service. Susan Lynn Hauck was born August 16, 1958, in Allentown, PA, to parents, Howard B. and Fay M. (Everett) Hauck. She was the youngest of three girls, growing up in Bethlehem, PA, with older sisters Ellen and Karen. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and sang in the church choir. In her teenage years, she began to feel her faith journey was leading her to become a pastor. Susan graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem in 1976. Following her college education, Susan attended Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor, ME, where she graduated in July 1991 with a Master of Divinity degree. She felt called to ministry with indigenous persons and moved to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. There she enrolled in the Oglala Lakota College to learn the Lakota language. Susan was ordained as a minister in the United Church of Christ on March 22, 1991, in Ft. Pierre, SD, where she served as pastor. Susan continued in ministry as pastor of the Independence and Mandaree Congregational United Church of Christ churches in North Dakota and then the Federated UCC/UMC church in Carrington, ND. It was in Carrington that she met her beloved husband, James Fandrich. They were married on June 28, 2003, and they made their home on Jim’s farm. After Jim retired from farming, the couple moved to Jamestown, ND, where Susan served as the chaplain at the Eventide Care Center. Jim passed away on February 22, 2020, leaving Susan heartbroken. She continued to reside in Jamestown, moving to the Eventide Assisted Living apartments and finally the Eventide Care Center, where she passed away on April 21, 2026, at the age of 67. Susan was a lover of all things purple, a good listener, a faithful friend, and a gentle spirit. She had compassion for people and animals, cared for the spiritual needs of others, and sought to be helpful in the community where she lived. She is survived by her sister, Karen Hauck; sisters-in-law, Janet Enders, Anne Fandrich, and Gail (Rich) Lange; brother-in-law, Cletus (Patti) Fandrich; and her beloved cat, Shadow. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her husband, James Fandrich; her parents, Howard and Fay Hauck; and her oldest sister, Ellen Hauck.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
