Summary: Daryl Roy Philbrick was born on January 12, 1969, in Skowhegan, ME, and passed away on June 6, 2026, in Bismarck, ND, after facing health issues with the same grit, stubbornness, and resilience that defined so much of his life. If resilience alone could have won the fight, he probably would have outlived us all. His funeral service was held June 12, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford, ND. Daryl was the kind of man who believed mornings should come with coffee first and conversations second. Those who knew him best understood that before his first cup, you were likely to get the classic grumble, a look that said “not yet,” or an opinion he was not shy about sharing. He could absolutely be the stereotypical grumpy man, and honestly, he wore it well. But underneath the grumbles, stubborn streak, and tough exterior was a sharp sense of humor and a heart far bigger than he ever cared to admit. Daryl had a way of making people laugh, turning ordinary moments into stories worth retelling and somehow making even hard days feel a little lighter. He would give the shirt off his back to someone in need, even if he pretended to complain about it first. He was generous, thoughtful, and humble, which is a pretty impressive combination, especially when you consider he also believed a cold one after a long day was a perfectly reasonable form of therapy. He graduated from Skowhegan High School and answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army, a chapter of life that reflected his discipline, strength, and deep sense of duty. Daryl was a proud U.S. Army veteran, and that pride stayed with him long after the uniform came off. He carried himself with the steady confidence of a man who knew how to work hard, keep his word, and get the job done without needing to make a speech about it. In his working life, Daryl spent many years in residential and commercial construction, where he put his hands, his head, and his heart into building things that lasted. He also had a talent for welding/metal work to make thoughtful gifts which meant he could make something useful, something tough, and something beautiful all in the same breath. That is not just skill, that is a full-time personality trait. Daryl enjoyed fishing and hunting, which suited a man who appreciated the outdoors, a quiet moment, and the occasional good story that somehow got better every time he told it. He loved spending time with family and friends, and those who knew him best will remember that his presence had a way of making a gathering feel more complete. He liked to laugh, to work, to create, and to throw back a cold one when the day was done, which he considered a fair reward for surviving life’s daily nonsense. He is survived by his son, Daryl Philbrick II; his daughters, Chelsea Philbrick and Angel Philbrick; his granddaughters, Jaslyn and Kori; his brother, Lee Philbrick; his stepchildren, Quenten Fiebelkorn, Jerry Fiebelkorn, Jennifer Quam, and Doug Carswell; and a multitude of step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry his memory forward in all the noisy, loving, slightly chaotic ways families do. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Bernice (Pinkham) Philbrick; his brother, Butch (Clark) Philbrick; and his sister, Sherry Knowles.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
