Summary: David A. Baker, 77, Minot, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026, in his home from advanced stage metastatic prostate cancer, his loving family at his bedside. David A. Baker was born March 16, 1949, a son of Bruce L. and Mary Ann (Braun) Baker in Bismarck, ND. He was raised across the state of North Dakota, attending numerous schools in railroad towns before the family settled in Minot. David graduated from Minot High School in 1968. David enlisted into the United States Navy in 1970, proudly serving his country aboard the USS St. Louis, being stationed in the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1974. In 1978, he joined the North Dakota National Guard until he was honorably discharged in 1981. On April 19, 1975, David was united in marriage to Susan Elaine Kostenko. They made their home in Minot, where David worked at the Minot Daily News for a time. He was employed with numerous automotive parts companies in Minot, ending his work career at Walmart. David was an active assistant pack leader for Cub Scouts and an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scouts. He attended many US/Canada Klondikes with the troop. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW along with being a past post commander. David was a proud father and grandfather. His grandson, Noah, was his partner in crime. David enjoyed attending his school programs and racing hot wheels cars with Noah. He also enjoyed hunting, and attending the races in Nodak Speedway and even traveled to see a NASCAR race at Delaware Dover Down Raceway. Everyone was a potential friend to David. His loving family includes: Wife of 51 years, Susan; Children, Charlotte (John) Napurski, Deirdre (John Constantine) Baker, and Christopher (Jennifer) Baker and their son Noah, siblings Larry Baker and Cheryl Evans and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and aunts. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Baker.

Summary: The North Dakota Heritage Family Memorial Program is sponsored by the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association. The life stories of deceased North Dakotans are featured in an archvied collection. Current partners in the project are Eastgate Funeral & Cremation Services, Bismarck Evans Funeral Homes, Carrington and New Rockford Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, Williston Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck Springan Stevenson Funeral Home, Stanley Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson These funeral homes provide recent obituaries to the Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are posted, and copies are sent to the family for their input and approval. The listing currently features more than 13,000 memorials, and is constantly updated as new memorials and histories are received.
