Summary: Papers of Edwin James Taylor, his wife Charlotte (Sterrett), and sons Herndon and Edwin Jr., as well as the papers of Mrs. Hazel Paris Reid (sister of Edwin Taylor Jr.’s second wife Aldeen Paris [Welch] Taylor), and papers of Major James Hanley (whose daughter Lewista married Aldeen Paris’ brother Robert). E. J. Taylor Sr. was an educator and librarian. The Taylor papers include correspondence with Walter Stockwell, W. E. Hoover, Minnie J. Nielson, Beatrice Johnstone, and Jerry D. Bacon, among others, pertaining in part to educational affairs and politics. Contains personal correspondence with friends and relatives and some business papers and notes for speeches. Includes materials relating to the Masonic Lodge, Bismarck Presbyterian Church, the Rotary Club, and the Women's Fortnightly Club. The oversize panorama of the North Dakota Educational Association, Bismarck (N.D.), 1914 (10064-147) has been digitized and the original is on first floor of the archives. Three oversize photos have been digitized and are located in a map case folder: State Convention of County School Superintendents group outside Elks Building, Dickinson (N.D.), May 3-4, 1916 (10064-148); Large group portrait, Minot (N.D.), 1961 (10064-149); an dedication ceremonies of the Grand Forks (N.D.) County Courthouse, May 20, 115 (110064-150). Taylor served as Superintendent of Public Instruction (1911-1916), and Law Librarian and Court Reporter to the North Dakota Supreme Court (1923-1955).
