Summary: Correspondence, biographical material, school records, election and campaign material, professional and judicial files, newspaper clippings, records of his work with his native country of Iceland on various events and projects, activities with the Lions Club and Masons. The most important part of the collection deals with the death of Martin Tabert or Munich, ND, and the resulting trial, also known as “the Whipping Boss” trial of Walter Higginbotham. The case reformed the penal system in Florida, eliminating the convict leasing system. The collection contains significant information on Masonic Island, formerly Park Island, in Lake Metigoshe, which was purchased by the Masons in the 1930s.
