Title: Coffee and his wife and children outside a tipi on the Fort Berthold Reservation

Inscription/Marks: On the front: "Indians of Fort Berthold Reservation By Fred Olsen. On the back: col. 86-609, a note with the information noted in the summary, the name "Dr. Wm Hubler Ryder, N.D.", and postcard marks.
Summary: Posed in front of a large canvas tipi by Fred Olsen for a postcard image are Coffee and his wife, Weasel Woman, with three daughters, a son and a dog. Coffee was known as the tallest man on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation at the time of the photograph, around 1910. His shirt is fringed, and decorated with quillwork, his leggings finished with a band of beadwork. The girl at his right stands in front of a baby carriage, and is only partly in the image. The son wears neatly parted short hair and a light middy blouse, his little sister is in front of him in a striped skirt, dark top, and beaded necklace. Weasel Woman has a shawl over her arm, a striped skirt, dark blouse, and long beaded breastplate. Beside her is the older daughter, in a blouse and jumper. The medium sized dog faces the family. Weasel Woman is also known as Utsitsa was or Jeanette Little Crow.

Summary: Consists of prints and some copy negatives of several photographers on the Fort Berthold Reservation, primarily Gilbert L. Wilson, and also including Frances Densmore, Frank Fiske, Fred Olson, Sumner Matteson, and several unidentified photographers. Ewald wrote identification of many photographs in his collection based upon suggestions from the people of Fort Berthold. Images include celebrations and gatherings, dances, sweat lodges, Little Missouri camps, cradles, portraits, Buffalo Bird Woman, Wolf Chief, Goodbird, Indian crafts and skills, artifacts, wood gathering, gardening, food processing and cooking, earth lodges, bullboats, travois, and Indian cowboys.
