Inscription/Marks: Notation identify the scene to be the Buffalo Springs camp of the Chicago Milwaukee Railroad engineer, and cite page 15 of Prairie Tales.
Summary: From the book Prairie Tales, a history of Bowman County (N.D.), this photograph shows a wintery scene of railroad engineer J. Lee Smith's camp at Buffalo Springs. A tent with a stove-pipe, a sod shack, and a wood-frame one-story house with three visible windows and a door are huddled cheek-and-jowl within an enclosure completely covered with blankets hung out to dry.
