Inscription/Marks: Notations simply identify photograph and cite page 328 of Prairie Tales.
Summary: From the book Prairie Tales, a history of Bowman County (N.D.), this photograph shows a man and woman posing outside a sod house. She wears a light dress, dark stockings and lace-up shoes, and cradles one cat in her arms, while another sits nearby. The man wears a white shirt, suspenders, trousers and work shoes, and holds a rifle in his hands, while a spotted dog stands on two legs "begging". The building has two parts- a sod section with a deep inset window, and frame shed addition with a screen-door on the front, and a single window on the side.
