Title: Elevator fire in Scranton (N.D.)

Inscription/Marks: Notations on the back identify the Scanton, N.D. elevator fire, and cite page 201 of Prairie Tales.
Summary: From the book Prairie Tales, a history of Bowman County (N.D.), this photograph shows the scene of a grain elevator fire, in Scranton (N.D.) sometime around 1920. The smoke and damage is visible at the top of the tall, square, wooden elevator. There are many men working to conrol the fire and monitor the fire hoses that run through the scene. Two elevators and their respective out-buildings are the back-drop for the image. Several women in long skirts are gathered to watch near a telephone pole, and one man, hands in jacket pockets, stands a watching guard over the water hose.
