Title: Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul Railroad camp on Virgin Creek (N.D.)
Date: ca. 1907
Inscription/Marks: Notations on the back indicate that this photograph was taken of a railroad workers' camp along the Virgin Creek within an Indian Reservation between Mobridge, S.D. and Faith, S.D., in Eagle Butte Territory. The original is owned by Chas. Ensign of Scranton, N.D.
Summary: From the book Prairie Tales, a history of Bowman County (N.D.), this is a camp scene in a field beside a grove of trees along Virgin Creek, S.D. Four tents have been set up, and three wagons stand next to other, unerected tents. A handful of men can be seen working on the campsite. This is a camp used by the crews that built the Chicago, Milwaukee Railroad.
