Inscription/Marks: On the back: Ceremonies at the Standing Rock-No. 1-Joe Primeau, No. 2-Major McLaughlin, No. 3 Sitting Bull---The Satanding Rock. (note that the identifications are the reverse of the order the men appear in the actual image. The names are ordered on the back as they relate to the negative image.
Summary: Dedication of monument on the Standing Rock Reservation, North Dakota. Sitting Bull, Dakota Chief, stands to left of monument --James McLaughlin, Agent Standing Rock Reservation, in hat and coat, is to right of monument, Joe Primeau leans on post. Men and women, Indian and white watch.. On the right are Two white women and three Cavalry officers mounted on horses. Seated Indians wrapped in blankets sit in front of this party.
