Title: Chief Gall with bow & arrows

Inscription/Marks: Under the picture is written in white his name. In dark ink is: Photo taken in May 1881 at Fort Buford, Dak. Ter.; and Unkpapa (Teton) Sioux. Died at Standing Rock, N.D. Dec. 5, 1894.
Summary: Taken at Fort Buford in May of 1881, the image captures Chief Gall in a fierce pose. A single feather is in his hair, his upper arms and fore-arms are painted with striped design,and he holds a bow and several arrows in his hand. A kerchief is fastened at his throat, his hair is wrapped in animal pelts and tails, he has no shirt under his vest. He has himself wrapped in a buffalo robe, fur inside. The robe is painted.
