Inscription/Marks: On the image is written his name. On the folder back is; Chief Crow King.
Summary: Dakota Territory photographer D. F. Barry took this image at Fort Buford, Dakota Territory in May, 1881. It shows the Hunkpapa leader, Chief Crow King on the day he and Low Dog surrendered to the U.S. military after their return from Canada. He wears a single eagle feather in his hair, which is gathered low and wrapped with fur strips. His necklace is of dentalium, and his breast-plate of round beads and pipe bone beads. These items he wears over a military uniform jacket he was given at the fort.
