Title: Thunder Hawk

Inscription/Marks: On the back is a printed biographical piece written by D.F.Barry to explain the subject to the buyer.
Summary: Chief Thunder Hawk stands posed against a studio prop wall, wearing a fringed leather shirt, adorned with white ermine (weasel) tails and a blanket wrapped around his trunk and legs. A pipe bone breastplate is on his chest, and a bandana secures two feathers on his head. Photo in an rectangular mat. Same as 00022H-00084. Credited with saving the life of Father DeSmet. In 1868 he persuaded Sitting Bull to accept the Treaty of Fort Laramie with the United States, which resulted in the chief and his people going to a reservation. De Smet returned to St. Louis. He died there on 23 May 1873.
