Collection: 00022H - Frank J. Hutchinson Photo Collection
Folder: 0013
Item: 00149
Title: Bismarck flood
Date: 1885
Creator: Barry, D. F.--(David Francis),--1854-1934
Inscription/Marks: On the back of the folder: The Break up of the old Missouri River the bottom land at Bismarck.
Summary: Dakota Territory photographer D. F. Barry's picture of the Bismarck area during a massive flood in 1885, shows houses under several feet of water. A number of wood-frame structures are completely surrounded by water. A snowy rise is on the left side of the scene. This rise of land has allowed some houses further down the river in the picture to have remained just a bit above the reach of the flood waters. A row boat is navigating the waters. This is the same as 00022H-00141, except for the notations on the back of the folder.
