Inscription/Marks: [Sioux County Pioneer Arrow 06-02-1933 p01] Fort Yates Schools are now closed—Will Enjoy Well-Earned Vacation. Saturday, May 27th, marked the end of the school term for children at Fort Yates. During the week activities were at a high pitch in all of the schools. On Wednesday the graduation exercises of the agency school were highly enjoyed. The playlets were well acted and well chosen. The names of those who were promoted, as read by Principal Hinds were specially interesting. The graduation exercises for the eighth grade of the agency school were held on Thursday following the program as published in this paper last week. The class presented a play and at the awarding of diplomas the stage was a scene of beauty with pretty dresses of the young ladies balanced by the somber hue of the gentlemens’ attire. The public school graduation, held Friday, was largely attended was largely attended. Superintendent E. D. Mossman gave the address which was an oratorical effort worthy of detailed attention that we are unable to give here. His subject being “Service” he urged the young people to regard life as an opportunity for unselfish service to their fellowmen and drew from the great characters of history ample evidence to substantiate his plea. Friday morning saw the dismissal of the children from the agency school when many cars brought parents in from distant parts of the reservation to meet the children. The closing exercises for eight grade graduates of St. Bernard’s Mission School were very pleasing. A stage prettily decorated faced the audience when the program began at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon. The program with the names of those who graduated follow: March of the graduates.
