Title: North and south parlors in the old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: 1932-1934, 1937-1939
Creator: Risem Studio
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-38, "#5", "Gokey Col.", "livingroom 1937or 38", and the state stamp.
Summary: Bismarck (N.D.) photographer Risem shows the two linked parlors on the east side of the old Governor's Mansion, as they appeared during one of the times the house was occupied by the William Langer family. Likely taken between 1937-1939, around the Christmas season, as indicated by wreaths hung on the outside of the mansion windows. The furniture was a mix of state provided items, and furniture and decorations belonging to the Langer family. Mrs. Langer was quite particular about what her house should look like. The piano was state owned, according to oral interviews with Mrs. F. Gokey, nee' Langer, who also provided the photograph. A lot of chairs and couches are arranged through these rooms, each room oriented around a carpet lain on the hardwood floor. A large wooden desk is against the east wall of the north parlor. The tall windows in the south and east windows of the south parlor or living room, let in light, despite the addition of venetian blinds and several layers of window treatments.
