Title: Unidentified man taking a break in the Carriage House
Date: Circa 1955
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-39-13, "no date", "12", and "ca. 1950s".
Summary: An unidentified man in plain chambray work shirt and trousers is seated at a small wooden card table in the carriage house at the Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.). On the table are two decorations of a religious and holiday theme. The wall behind him is wainscoted with horizontally placed beadboard on the bottom section, and vertically placed beadboard as the upper part. Photographs and small shelves are on the wall, as is a towel bar and a corner-mounted sink. One of the photographs is of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Likely this man is one of the many low-risk prisoners from the state Penitentiary who routinely did much of the maintenance and yard work at the mansion. Undated except attribution to the 1950s, therefore it is unclear which Governor's family was in residence at this time, Aandahl left office in 1951, and was succeeded by Brunsdale from 1951-1957, and then Davis from 1957-1961.
