Title: The Old Governor's Mansion, Bismarck (N.D.)
Date: 1913-1917
Creator: Holmboe Studio
Inscription/Marks: On the back: 0071-43.
Summary: This large photograph of the Old Governor's Mansion at 320 E. Ave B in Bismarck (N.D.) is a product of the Holmboe Studio. Taken around 1915, during the Governor L.B. Hanna years, the former Asa Fisher house, built in 1884, has been repainted in a color-scheme unlike the original. Now painted white with dark painted screen windows, the once open porches on the ground and second stories have been screened in, but not enlarged. The original porch skirting, railings and general Victorian design features are still present. Vines are well-established on the screens and corners of the facade. The elm trees in the yard are nearly bare of leaves, indicating a fall photo date. No fence separates the yard from the sidewalk, as it once did. This was removed in the early years of the Hanna term. A hitching post is visible between the sidewalk and the street. The mansion was home to governors and their families from 1893 until 1960.
